Getting better
Last time, I wrote about how I’m generally unhappy, and what caused my happiness in the past. This time, I’m here to tell you that I’m doing a bit better at creating my own happiness instead of deriving it from some accomplishment.
Writing Happy/Sad Things
Writing down the things that made me happy and sad during the day helps me recollect and debug what parts of my life are making me unhappy. I got this trick from my manager at work and reading The Book of Joy. I can use this list of things that make me happy and sad to plan my day. I try to avoid the things that make me sad, and try to do more of the things that made me happy.
Writing these down helps organize my emotions into small problems that I can solve.
Reading about happiness and The Book of Joy have really helped me change the perspective I have of life. I need to do better about focusing on the highlights of my day instead of the low ones.
The Little Things
Recently, the thing that’s made me most happy is having my old keyboard back. The Cherry MX browns are so much better than the cheap knock off blues on the keyboard I’ve been using. I took a trip back to the office to pick up my CoolerMaster keyboard and I forgot how much I enjoy typing at this thing. Plus the keys aren’t obnoxiously loud every time I smack a key. This is a much more tame keyboard. Every keystroke before took way too much finger strength for me to type at it all day.
Compared to the shitty keyboard I got from Amazon, my CoolerMaster actually feels a little gummy. I think the only reason I feel like that though is because the Amazon one took like 5 pounds of activation energy to trigger an event.
