A Leap of Faith
In Assassin’s Creed, there is this game mechanic where the main character needs to find these tall buildings to gain some perspective of the land. Then the main character can take in the view, and the minimap will persist the data so you can see it at any time.

I believe that this is also true in reality. In moments when we are at our most powerful, the moments when we have the most perspective, we are also at our most vulnerable. Any step in the wrong direction could be the last. But on the small chance that our leap of faith lands us in a soft bale of hay, all the risks we took become worth it.
As a note for my future self, these are the kinds of thoughts I’m having as I decide whether or not I need to take a mini-retirement. At Lyft pre-IPO, I’ve felt more confident and happy than I’ve ever felt before in my life. Now, that side is starting to crumble. I can take a leap of faith (a mini-retirement) in hopes that some time away from working will grant me some sort of enlightenment, or I can take a leap of faith and be left splattered on the floor with no health insurance and low job prospects.
